Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Award
Nominations for K-12 Accepted Now!

"OEST" awards recognize teachers that have worked hard to instill & foster a love of all the Earth Sciences.  To be eligible, you must be a K-12 educator who covers a significant amount of earth science material, including any combination of geology, geography, oceanography, geomorphology and hydrology.

Each year, the PNW NAGT presents 6 winners (one from each state/province in our section) with a host of prizes.  In addition, one of our exceptional state winners is also be chosen as the 'overall' Sectional winner. 

The PNW Sectional winner receives a:
  • 10"x13" laser-engraved solid walnut plaque from NAGT
  • 2 year complementary membership in NAGT
  • 3 year complimentary membership in GSA & the Education Division
  • $500 grant for travel funds (winners must request this money) to a GSA meeting
  • $500 grant for classroom improvement funds (winners must request this money) from GSA
  • Copy of Over The Mountains and an Earth Science Week kit from American Geosciences Institute
  • 1 year membership/subscription to EOS & Physics Today from AGU
  • 1 year subscription to The Professional Geologist from AIPG
  • 1 year membership and subscription to the Earth Scientist (NESTA)
  • variety of publications from the USGS
  • Free registration for the full PNW NAGT conference (1 year)

The PNW Sectional state winners receive a:
  • 9" x 12" engraved plaque 
  • 1 year complimentary membership in NAGT (including subscription to Journal of Geoscience Education), from NAGT 
  • Variety of publications from the USGS 
  • 1 year membership in the Geologic Division of GSA and in GSA 
  • Kit for Earth Science Week from AGI
  • Free registration for the full PNW NAGT conference (1 year)


"Devised to honor pre-college teachers of earth science, the program has the following specific objectives:

  • Identify, recognize & reward excellence in teaching
  • Stimulate higher levels of teaching performance
  • Establish NAGT as a strong support organization for pre-college education"
